지난 10년 동안 나는 종이 위에 먹으로 점을 찍는 행위에 몰두해왔다. 점들이 시간의 흐름 속에서 만들어내는 연속성과 배열은 하나의 언어가 되었고 이를 통해 구체적인 형상 대신 추상적 사유와 감각의 상태를 드러내고자 했다. 작업은 곧 ‘창작의 목적은 무엇인가’라는 질문으로 이어졌고 나는 그 질문을 붙든 채 오랜 시간을 보내왔다. 그러나 어느 순간 이 행위가 사유를 동반하지 않은 반복으로 변해가고 있다는 자각에 이르렀다. 처음에는 분명한 질문과 긴장이 있었지만 시간이 흐르며 생각과 작업 사이의 연결은 느슨해졌고 끝내 남은 것은 육체적 움직임뿐이었다. 예술의 형식을 재생산하는 일, 그럴듯한 결과물과 이미 정해진 듯한 의미들이 더 이상 나를 움직이지 않는다는 사실을 인식하게 되었다. 멋지고 아름답게 완결된 무언가를 만드는 일은 애초에 내가 향하던 지점이 아니었다. 최근의 작업은 내면을 응시하는 태도에서 벗어나 내가 직접 마주하고 경험한 외부의 사건들로 시선을 옮긴다. 이는 삶과 예술이 분리되지 않는 지점에서 미술이 어떤 언어로 다시 작동할 수 있는지를 묻는 시도이다. 나의 작업은 더 이상 내면의 의미를 증명하려 하지 않으며 경험된 현실이 미술의 조건으로 전환되는 순간을 탐색하는 데에 놓여 있다. For the past decade, I have been devoted to the act of placing ink dots on paper. The continuity and arrangement formed over time became a personal language through which I sought to reveal abstract thought and internal states rather than concrete imagery. This sustained practice was accompanied by an ongoing inquiry into the fundamental purpose of artistic creation and what might be discovered through that process. At a certain point, however, I became aware that the work had begun to turn into a repetitive gesture stripped of its initial critical tension. What once emerged from concentrated reflection gradually loosened its connection to thought, leaving behind a predominantly physical action. I began to question the significance of reproducing the shell of art—of producing convincing forms accompanied by standardized meanings—which no longer held any urgency for me. The pursuit of refined or aesthetically pleasing outcomes was never the direction I intended to follow. More recently, my practice has shifted away from an exclusive focus on inner states toward engaging with external events encountered through direct experience. This transition extends my ongoing inquiry into the point at which life and art intersect, and how art may operate as a language within that space.
